Bic pen and fifty bucks

Bic pen and fifty bucks marks the mosaic studio’s first artwork created from a photographic source. The photograph by Dave Southwood, titled Bic pen and fifty bucks forms part of a decade-long project of documenting the iconic Cape Town flea market, Milnerton Market. The project has been made into a book published by Fourthwall Books.

Bic pen and fifty bucks was created in a contemporary style mosaic with Venetian glass, ceramic elements, engineered, semiprecious and natural stone; in the direct method.

Artist Biography

Dave Southwood lives and works in Cape Town. He works in the medium of photography and concerns himself with varied aspects of the medium itself and how it is consumed.  His photographs are in the collections of the South African National Gallery, Spier, the Finnish Museum of Photography and the Christoph Merian Stiftung in Switzerland.
